Overview

Powerscourt Hotel, formerly the Ritz-Carlton, in County Wicklow, opened in October 2007 and is a lavish €200 million development offering an unprecedented level of luxury for guests. The crescent-shaped 28,000 square metre marble-clad building has been designed in a neo-classical Palladian style.

On arrival, patrons are protected from the elements by a unique laminated cedar and copper clad porte-cochère. This feature is an absolute triumph and gives a light and airy feel to the entrance of the hotel. Limerick-based Bridge Engineering was responsible for the fabrication of this exquisite feature – but it needed to remain in exquisite condition for the long-term.

Solution

With low maintenance and an aesthetic finish in mind, the fabricated steelwork underwent a hot dip galvanizing process, and was then painted/sprayed using Galvacoat® Paint, with both processes carried out in-house by Galco.

Results

No etch primers were required and it saved a substantial amount of time and effort on the project. Galvacoat® also offered a limitless colour palette, The net effect of the hot dip galvanizing process is an elegant, crisp, soft wrought iron effect to the complex steelwork, both in the garden areas and the main building itself, especially at the main entrance/ reception area.
